Kevin Smith to Helm "Battlestar Galactica" Episode?

Forget about film. Director Kevin Smith is a very, very, very busy man these days... in television.

The Clerks creator recently announced that he will write and direct the premiere installment of the Heroes spinoff limited series, Heroes: Origins, and he directed the pilot to the new CW dramedy, Reaper, this past spring.

So what's up next for the notoriously foul-mouthed director? Smith will helm an episode of Sci Fi's superlative drama Battlestar Galactica, apparently.

In an interview with AOL's TV Tattler, Smith says that he'll do just that:
"I'm going to go up and direct an episode of Battlestar Galactica, which I'm kind of stoked about. It's cool, but it is scary because it is like, "What the f---? I can't bring anything to that show." That show is genius and they have a very distinctive visual style. But you are safe as a kitten. If you go in there and say, "I'm going to shoot everything in one big master shot," they'll go, "No you're not, because that is not what we do on Battlestar Galactica." I guess it is more about performance-oriented stuff, but at the same time that cast is top notch. How do you f----- direct Mary McDonnell?"
I'm excited about the news. I just hope the results are more along the lines of Clerks or Chasing Amy (albeit in space with, well, deadly Cylons) rather than, say, Jersey Girl. But that's just me.

I actually liked Jersey Girl, but there's a time and place for that kind of movie and I don't think Battlestar Galactica is one of those places.

There is a reason Kevin Smith didn't direct The Green Hornet project and why he says he hasn't directed an action movie - BECAUSE HE CAN'T DIRECT!!!! He is a a decent director on "talkie" movies that are all set in one location., but he a hack otherwise. Then again, series directors don't really do too much once the visual tone of a show is established... so I don't even know what he is bringing to the table

Like we need the famous Kevin Smith gab-and-walk two-shot on BSG. I get why the high-profile directing announcement but BSG should be better than this. Hated Reaper, by the way.

Matt, I'm with you Jersey Girl was a great little movie although I'll admit I love chick flicks.
Justin, The people behind Heroes and BSG aren't morons. There's obviously something they've seen the makes them think Smith will be a great fit with their shows. I haven't seen Reaper yet, but only hear great things about it (except for geekchick) and I have to believe they've seen the show and think he's proved himself enough to manage on these huge series.
Of course I'm biased as I'm a huge Smith fan and am truly excited about all his TV work.

I'm reserving judgment. I do like the majority of Smith's work (though not "Jersey Girl" by any stretch of the imagination) and my *major* problems with "Reaper" were more do to with the writing than Smith's direction.
I thought the Reaper pilot was horrible so I'm definitely wary of him taking on Battlestar.

Seriously people have more faith in the people behind BSG. If Smith messes it up, they'll fix it. Seriously have some faith.

Have a Burning Question for Team Darlton, Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, or Michael Emerson?

Lost fans: you don't have to make your way to the island via Ajira Airways in order to ask a question of the creative team or the series' stars. Televisionary is taking questions from fans to put to Lost 's executive producers/showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse and stars Matthew Fox ("Jack Shephard"), Evangeline Lilly ("Kate Austen"), and Michael Emerson ("Benjamin Linus") for a series of on-camera interviews taking place this weekend. If you have a specific question for any of the above producers or actors from Lost , please leave it in the comments section below . I'll be accepting questions until midnight PT tonight and, while I can't promise I'll be able to ask any specific inquiry due to the brevity of these on-camera interviews, I am looking for some insightful and thought-provoking questions to add to the mix. So who knows: your burning question might get asked after all.

What's Done is Done: The Eternal Struggle Between Good and Evil on the Season Finale of "Lost"

Every story begins with thread. It's up to the storyteller to determine just how much they need to parcel out, what pattern they're making, and when to cut it short and tie it off. With last night's penultimate season finale of Lost ("The Incident, Parts One and Two"), written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, we began to see the pattern that Lindelof and Cuse have been designing towards the last five seasons of this serpentine series. And it was only fitting that the two-hour finale, which pushes us on the road to the final season of Lost , should begin with thread, a loom, and a tapestry. Would Jack follow through on his plan to detonate the island and therefore reset their lives aboard Oceanic Flight 815 ? Why did Locke want to kill Jacob? What caused The Incident? What was in the box and just what lies in the shadow of the statue? We got the answers to these in a two-hour season finale that didn't quite pack the same emotional wallop of previous season ...

In Defense of Downton Abbey (Or, Don't Believe Everything You Read)

The proof of the pudding, as they say, is in the eating. Which means, if I can get on my soapbox for a minute, that in order to judge something, one ought to experience it first hand. One can't know how the pudding has turned out until one actually tastes it. I was asked last week--while I was on vacation with my wife--for an interview by a journalist from The Daily Mail, who got in touch to talk to me about PBS' upcoming launch of ITV's period drama Downton Abbey , which stars Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith, Dan Stevens, Elizabeth McGovern, and a host of others. (It launches on Sunday evening as part of PBS' Masterpiece Classic ; my advance review of the first season can be read here , while my interview with Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and stars Dan Stevens and Hugh Bonneville can be read here .) Normally, I would have refused, just based on the fact that I was traveling and wasn't working, but I love Downton Abbey and am so enchanted with the proj...
